Branding Your Food Videos

If you have a website, you know a thing or 2 about branding. It represents you and what you want to portray to your audience. When I first started making food videos over a year ago, branding was very important to me. I wanted my videos to be very apparent that they were mine from beginning to end. At the time, I wanted them to put a face with a name. I made sure my logo was throughout my video and at the end.

In case you haven’t noticed, video has taken over newsfeed and instagram by storm. This makes branding all the more important. I enlisted the help of fellow colleague, Katie Proctor. to answer a few questions regarding branding video. Katie Proctor, MBA, RDN is a brand strategy and influencer marketing consultant at www.elevatewithkatie.com. She is passionate about helping RD’s stand out in a crowded market by defining their brand and becoming the partners of choice for individuals, brands, businesses and media.

Q. How can video help bloggers brand their business?
A. Videos bring your brand to life. Video allows you to show more than a glimpse of your food philosophy, values, and behaviors. And if on-camera, it allows you to connect with the viewer in a more personal way which ultimately contributes to credibility.
Q. In relation to competition, how would branding help them stand out in the video space?
A. Video can help you speak authoritatively as well as use sound bites to communicate sound nutrition information. It can also help you promote a way of eating, dietary patterns and more that are meaningful to your work and help them get more “air time” than other trendy or non-evidence based approaches. This is by virtue of how video is distributed and prioritized in news feeds these days.
Q. Would adding video be an important avenue for bloggers wanting to work with brands and why?
A. Absolutely! Video captures viewers, increasing the number of people who see the content as well as the duration they spend engaging with the content. It also promotes shareability which is a big brand goal to further spread their message among their target audiences. Social platforms are pushing video to the top of the feeds and brands need/want to jump on board — but they may not have the time to do it themselves. If they can find a credible partner who produces quality content it’s a win-win.
Q. Looking toward the future of branding and marketing, do you see video as a key piece of the pie?
A. Video is already transforming the way we present ourselves from the more casual “story” aspect to live streaming and pre-recorded video shows (that are evergreen and highly searchable) and video advertising. I think what is going to be most interesting to see is how e-commerce gets wrapped into video so viewers can shop (this applies to both products and services) and you can start proving out ROI directly to sales.
Now that you understand how important it is to brand you video, here are a few ways to brand your video.
1. Use your logo throughout the video as a watermark. You can make a simple png image. Canva’s paid version or PicMonkey let you save in a png format. (png is has a transparent background.)
2. Make sure you put your logo and website at the end of the video.
3. Be consistent in the look and feel of your videos. It can be the same fonts, same board background, or same opening. Consistency also helps in the production and editing of your video.
