Food Video Will Increase Your Facebook Reach and Following

It’s Food Video Friday! This is a series I will be running indefinitely to give more information on the 411 of food video. This week I want to dive into reach and following. Food bloggers want to increase their reach and following. It’s what most of us work toward in order to make money or promote your business.

If you aren’t doing food video yet, you are doing yourself a disservice. Food video has taken over Facebook feeds since the launch of Buzzfeed’s Tasty. You have probably noticed a lot of brands and people jumping on this bandwagon. Food bloggers are slowing getting into the game. Since I am a dietitian, I think it’s a prime platform for dietitians to create and post healthy recipes and develop a strong voice in this new platform.

What is reach?

Reach is the exact number of people who viewed your content. Reach on Facebook can be likes, comments, engagement, organic, viral, or paid. Organic reach is the reach that Facebook gives you which is more limited. Paid reach is where you pay to promote your posts or page. Viral reach is where others have shared your content. For instance, if one of your followers shares your video or post, their their followers will see your content. Reach grows your following so it’s important to understand the different types and see what works best for you.

Below, I am sharing my insights for the week from my page that is just 2 months old. To get to this on your page, click on insights.

You can go further in your insights and click on each box, you can see more metric data. You can even click on the graphs, and it will take you to the particular post that did well. If you still aren’t convinced about utilizing food video, look below to see for yourself. Those tall peaks you see are from new video! Those valleys you see are all regular blog posts or comments.

Video is king on Facebook! You are more likely to gain followers with video than a picture. This is a vital component of increasing your reach which in turn increases your following. They go together. If people like what they see, they will come back to you. All of my video posts have huge surges compared to sharing a blog post. Video always brings me followers.

If you are a food blogger or dietitian who wants to do more video, you can join my Food Video Group on Facebook. You can request to join here. Please pm me the name of your blog so I can approve you as a member.
